Braves’ 2025 grade is an unfortunate reminder of just how far Atlanta fell

If you ask any Atlanta Braves fan their thoughts on the 2025 season, you will find universal disappointment even if the degrees of disappointment will vary. The season got off to a terrible start as the Braves went 0-7 and Jurickson Profar got suspended for PEDs. Unfortunately, the news didn't improve much during the season as Atlanta struggled with consistency and a myriad of injuries that ultimately made them an afterthought early in the second half of 2025.

However, there were some positives to take away. Drake Baldwin won Rookie of the Year after being forced into a big league role after Sean Murphy got hurt. Hurston Waldrep got another opportunity in the rotation and seized it thanks to some key adjustments. That is little consolation for Atlanta fans that are still bruised from all the losses, but it is something.

Recently, Bleacher Report decided to close out 2025 by grading each MLB team's year. To the surprise of exactly no one, the Braves got a failing grade even with the progress they have made this offseason.

Importantly, B/R's Kerry Miller made sure to point out that Atlanta has done a lot of good work this offseason with the signings of Raisel Iglesias, Ha-Seong Kim, and Robert Suarez getting special mention. Overall, Miller thinks (at least at the time he wrote the piece) that the Braves have gotten a top 5 haul this offseason and that is to be celebrated.

However, he also (correctly) pointed out that the only reason those moves were necessary were because the Braves were colossal disappointments during the 2025 season. It is nice that the front office is being proactive in addressing the roster's flaws in addition to waiting for key players to get healthy, but that doesn't change the fact that the Braves went 76-86 last season and that truly stinks.

The good news is that in sports, there is always next season. Normally, that is just false hope that fans of bad teams tell themselves. However, the bones of this Braves' roster are still very good and the team is littered with some of the best players at their positions in all of baseball. Atlanta is putting themselves in a good spot for 2026, but it has taken a lot of effort to climb out of the hole they dug for themselves.
