There are plenty of things the Atlanta Braves need to do this offseason to make fans confident they will have a chance at a World Series run in 2027. The offense needs some work, along with the starting rotation. Atlanta's bullpen saw a lot of movement in 2026, but it was a decent strength for the majority of the season. There will be a few additions needed in the offseason, and there will be some good options available.
Adrian Morejon is an arm the Braves will be keen on for next season, and for good reason. The Padres southpaw has been very dependable over the last couple of years. It's hard to ignore his impressive stat line from the 2026 season. Morejon had a 2.83 ERA, 28 holds, three saves, 28 walks, and 107 strikeouts over 86 innings pitched. Opponents batted just .205 against him, with just four home runs allowed all season.
He was even better against left-handed batters with a .180/.234/.227 slash line, a .460 OPS, seven walks, and 39 strikeouts. That kind of arm would be a welcome sight in the Braves' bullpen. However, it would be a predictable move, and the team should consider not making it.
Adrian Morejon would be a great bullpen addition, but the Braves' money could be better used elsewhere
Morejon does struggle a bit against right-handed bats than he does against left-handed ones. And he is much better at home than he is on the road. The southpaw had a 1.90 ERA at home in 2026 versus 3.96 on the road. Those aren't the reasons Atlanta should steer away from the lefty. The main reason is financial.
Morejon was in his final year of arbitration in 2026, and he earned $3.9 million. He will hit the free -agent market in 2027, and there will be a lot of teams looking to add him. His salary will likely go up significantly from that almost $4 million figure. The Braves would likely have the capital to go after him, especially if they move on from Raisel Iglesias. However, they should consider not doing this so that they don't have a decent amount of money tied up in another reliever.
They made a large investment in Aaron Bummer a couple of years ago, and that eventually fell apart. This move will likely happen, as it fits the bill for Alex Anthopoulos. But they need to consider putting more money into the starting rotation and lineup instead. The front office can always turn to the trade market to find the bullpen arms they need. Morejon could help the team, but it feels like it's time for Atlanta's front office to change things up.
