5 Braves hitting prospects that could have Silver Slugger Awards in their future

After years of having JUST enough to sustain the Major League roster, the Atlanta Braves’ farm system is in much better shape these days. Thanks to a pair of strong draft classes in 2025 and 2026 as well as the emergence of guys like Eric Hartman and John Gil, Atlanta's prospect pipeline is the strongest (especially in terms of position player prospects) it has been since the days when Ronald Acuña Jr., Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies, and Dansby Swanson were on the prowl in the minors.

However, the actual ceiling of many of these hitting prospects is hard to gauge. Many of them are still a long way away and/or haven't progressed to the point where projections can be made with confidence. That said, several Braves hitting prospects do have the raw tools to realistically compete for a Silver Slugger at their position(s) in the years to come.

There is nothing scientific about this list. To win a Silver Slugger, you usually need to hit for power pretty consistently, which is why Carter Beck does not appear (yet). You also must have at least a decent hit tool, especially at premium positions, so guys like Gil are also being left off for the time being until we see a bit more. After that, certain position categories are a bit easier to win Silver Sluggers than others, so those players had a bit of an edge.

Eric Hartman

Pretty easy choice here in Hartman. Not only does he have a dynamic hitting profile that has been rewarded with a promotion to Double-A this season, but he is also an outfielder, where there are three chances to win a Silver Slugger instead of just one slot. There is also a world where Hartman could get some designated hitter consideration or MAYBE the utility category (although the latter is a huge reach at this point). If Hartman can remotely keep up his current pace, he will be in the running for a Silver Slugger in no time.

Tate Southisene

Tate Southisene rebounded from a disastrous pro debut to be one of the Braves' best-hitting prospects this season. Before he got knocked out with an injury after a HBP, Southisene had been promoted twice in 2026 and assembled a .278/.408/.476 slash line with 12 homers and 45 steals.

Speed will remain his calling card, but Southisene also has enough pop to keep pace and, importantly, has the makings of a guy that could play all around the infield, and perhaps even the outfield. That positional versatility puts a lot of Silver Slugger categories in play, including the utility slot which can be a bit soft in terms of competition.

AJ Gracia

Including AJ Gracia here is pretty ambitious, especially since he was JUST drafted ninth overall and recently had shoulder surgery. However, the fact remains that Gracia was one of the best college hitters in the 2026 MLB Draft class, with a track record of hitting for power in one of the tougher college conferences and the ability to play all three outfield positions. Gracia could end up a bust in the wake of his injury, but we are wagering he will stay on a course that could lead to a Silver Slugger for at least a little while.

Alex Lodise

Alex Lodise ALMOST didn't make this list, as his hit tool has been suspect at times, particularly when he was at Low-A Augusta. However, it is hard to ignore the fact that the former Dick Howser Trophy winner has 26 home runs this season, has been promoted twice by the Braves in 2026, and seems to have improved his approach at each stop in the minor leagues.

One note with Lodise is that his defense at shortstop this season hasn't been ideal. However, that almost helps his Silver Slugger chances, as Lodise's power would profile very favorably at third or second base. There is also an outside chance that he would make sense as a DH or utility player as well.

Conor Essenburg

Conor Essenburg is a funny one, because his hit tool doesn't LOOK particularly intriguing if you are looking at his batting average from his time at High-A Rome. However, Essenburg hit much better at Augusta, and his elite ability to get on base and draw walks has remained consistent this season. If anything, he might be TOO patient at the plate.

Once you factor his OBP skills as well as the fact that he has some of the best raw power in the Braves' farm system, you have a kid that could grow into a monster and a bona fide outfield Silver Slugger contender.

Owen Carey

Call us bullish on Owen Carey, but this kid can hit. Despite not fully growing into his power year and having dealt with an injury earlier in the season, Carey has still amassed 10 homers and a .790 OPS across High-A and Double-A.

That said, Carey is still a ways away, and he will have to continue to improve if he wants a Silver Slugger on his mantle. He checks the outfield box, but it may be years before we figure out if Carey will be able to reach his lofty potential.
