Another day went by on Saturday without the Atlanta Braves doing…well…anything. With the Braves doing the bulk of their spending in the form of long-term extensions over the last few years, the Braves shopping list this offseason is small. Given that the team likely won’t want to go TOO far over the luxury tax threshold (count us among those that think its inevitable that they will pay the tax in 2023), they are going to be deliberate in the moves they make.

Conversely, Dansby Swanson, the guy we mention basically every day, has every right to test the market fully and make the best decision for him even though his leaving would likely make a lot of fans mad.

Elsewhere on the site, we had a season review go up for Robbie Grossman. Grossman was a fun story for a bit as there were flashes where it looked like the Braves had fixed his swing and resulted in some more trade deadline larceny from AA and co. Unfortunately, the production didn’t stick and Grossman ended up being a bit of an afterthought.

MLB News

The free agent market has cooled down considerably now that the Winter Meetings are over with. However, we did have a couple of moves to keep us occupied on Saturday.

Kevin Kiermaier has been a defensive whiz for a long time for the Rays, but he hit free agency this offseason coming off an injury ridden 2022 season. The Blue Jays appear to be betting that he bounces back as they agreed to sign him although the terms of the deal are not yet known.

The National League East continues to stay busy even if the Braves aren’t doing anything. However, this time it was the Nationals (who are likely to be quite bad in 2023) making a move as they signed pitcher Trevor Williams to a two year deal to help fill out the roster a bit.
