The Winter Meetings are finally here and we are already seeing more movement in the free agent and trade markets although the Atlanta Braves have yet to make their move. Over the next four days, we are going to see a lot of transactions leaguewide although we still don’t know exactly how the major Braves storylines are going to play out.

It is fair to say that the Braves’ entire offseason is going to be dictated by what happens at shortstop. Right now, it sure seems like Dansby is a popular guy on the free agent market. If the Braves can sign him or someone similar or better in production to play short, that will be pretty much it for the Braves this offseason. If not, things could get pretty interesting.

Elsewhere on the site, we had a look at Michael Harris’ 2022 season and more specifically, his ability to outperform some of the expected batting metrics he put up. Don’t worry, we still love him and he still would have been awesome even if he had just put up numbers equal to what the advanced metrics said he should have.

Finally, our Tomahawk Take Awards series came to its conclusion today with our Best Braves Win from 2022. There were a lot of fun wins from last season, but a certain late season series featured prominently in the voting.

MLB News

The big news from yesterday wasn’t a transaction, per se, but news that shook the trade market. Outfielder Bryan Reynolds, who has been a popular name in fictional trade proposals for a while now, officially requested that the Pittsburgh Pirates trade him. The Pirates haven’t shown any public willingness to honor that request just yet, but given how bad that team is going to be for a long time and how little Pittsburgh likes to invest in their roster, we don’t fault Reynolds for at least making his feelings known.

We didn’t have any deGrom-sized deals yesterday, but the pitching market is continuing to heat up as the Orioles signed Kyle Gibson to a one year deal. Gibson is more just an innings-eater type at this point in his career and he pitched poorly for the Phillies after being traded, but its nice to see the Orioles actually adding players to their roster for a change.
