The Best Braves Win was Beating the Mets for the Division
A pretty obvious answer. The only difference was which game from the Mets series. We had a few voting for the game they took down Scherzer and a few voting for the third game to complete the sweep.
I decided to combine it into the beating the Mets for the division.
The Braves were 10.5 games back on June 1st. They had to chase down the Mets all season, and it culminated in the final series against the divisional foe. Due to the outcomes of the earlier contests, and because there was no game 163 anymore, they had to sweep the series to have a legit shot at winning the NL East for a fifth straight season.
Nearly everyone stepped up and delivered. Key moments from key players. The Mets were throwing Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer in two of the three games. The Braves beat both.
Max Fried pitched through an illness. Dansby Swanson capped off a spectacular season. Matt Olson stepped up in a huge moment during his first Braves season. Countless other moments occurred to give the team the edge they needed, the sweep they desperately needed, and a fifth straight NL East crown.
It makes sense the Best Win was mostly focused on this series.
Braves 14 Game Win Streak Earns Love
Ben and Christian both voted for wins during the 14-game win streak. Ben voted for the first game of the streak that started against the Diamondbacks. Christian voted for the final win that took place in Washington on June 15th.
While the Mets series got a lot of love, and rightfully so but the 14-game win streak gave them the spark they needed. It was the light that showed up when the season felt dark in April and May. Before the winning streak, the Braves were 23-27. By the time it ended, the Braves were 37-27 and started to believe again.
They finally looked like the team we believed they could be. The winning streak was the start of a fun summer for Braves country.
The Braves Rookie Sets a Record
Fred gave some love to Spencer Strider with his vote. It is fitting as Strider has been shown love throughout this entire series.
Strider’s 16 strikeout game was highlighted in our last edition, so I will not dive too deep into it. A quick recap shows he went 8 innings, allowed only 2 hits, 0 walks, 0 runs, and, of course, 16 strikeouts. An Atlanta Braves record.
It was the exclamation point on Strider’s historic rookie season.
That’s All!
The series has come to an end. I want to say thanks to everyone for reading and participating with us. A thank you to all the contributors that helped by voting and giving me their insight behind their votes.
I am starting a new series soon. One that will look at the Braves top prospects from year’s past and see how they turned out. Keep on the lookout for that!
