Braves News: Fried falls short in Cy Young race, Vaughn Grissom, and more
The next major offseason deadline for the Atlanta Braves is the nontender deadline on Friday, but we still had plenty to talk about in Braves country on Wednesday. The BBWAA awards continued their rollout with the results of the Cy Young voting. The Braves had one finalist, Max Fried, but going into the night, he certainly appeared to be the underdog to prohibitive favorite Sandy Alcantara.
Unfortunately for Fried, that is exactly how it turned out as he finished second in the NL Cy Young race to Sandy. Alcantara received first place votes on every ballot making him the unanimous selection from the National League. It is hard to be too upset since Sandy was legitimately awesome this season, but its still a bummer to see him lose out on some hardware. Kyle Wright did receive a little down ballot love in the voting, although his win total rightly didn’t goose him up the ranks too much.

Elsewhere on the site, we entertained a discussion about whether or not Vaughn Grissom should get traded by the Braves. It is unlikely, but it is certainly not an idea to dismiss out of hand especially if the Atlanta Braves fill their hole at shortstop with Dansby or with someone else.
We also said our goodbyes to Guillermo Heredia, the King of Vibes himself. It makes all the baseball sense in the world to move on from him, but man was that guy fun to watch in the dugout and he was an all-time great when it comes to post-game quotes. We love you Guillermo. Braise.
Our season review series continued to roll on with AJ Minter who remains criminally underrated as a reliever by the league at-large. He has been a constant in several VERY good Braves bullpens over the last few years.
MLB News
The Mariners scored big on Wednesday on the trade market as they acquired Teoscar Hernandez from the Blue Jays. Teoscar is only under team control for the 2023 season, but it is nice to see Seattle staying aggressive after their playoff push last season. Remember, Jerry DiPoto has never met a trade proposal he doesn’t like.
Sandy Alcantara wasn’t the only unanimous Cy Young winner on Wednesday evening as Justin Verlander got every first place vote over on the American League side as well. Verlander is going to make quite a bit of money this winter and winning the Cy Young again certainly can’t hurt the cause there.
