The week that was for the Atlanta Braves wasn’t good, but this team now has a new weapon in its arsenal that helps, although makes for interesting questions to come.
The Atlanta Braves played badly against the Mets during a critical series in New York and must now deal with the likelihood that they will be a Wild Card team come playoff time.
Editor’s note: sorry for the delay on this, but we’re transitioning to a new podcast provider and there are a couple of logistical hoops that had to be navigated this week.
While yes, there are still a number of head-to-head games to play against them and there are still 45-ish games on the schedule… facts are stubborn things and it’s going to be difficult to make up that kind of ground since the schedule is no longer as favorable as it was in June.
Truth is that the team has been scuffling offensively with multiple positions this year, and that fact led them to bring up Vaughn Grissom to try and ignite a spark… at least at second base.
So far… the reviews are good, but that also makes for an interesting discussion on the subject of just how Grissom fits on this roster going forward.
Unfortunately, that topic also delves into the fact that the team has an 800-lbs. gorilla in the room… an unsigned contract extension for Dansby Swanson.
That’s going to be an on-going topic of fan interest, and we’ve been writing a lot about it lately, including here and here and here.
This week… Off Leo’s Rocker also throws a hat into the ring and adds the thoughts of a couple of curmudgeons watching the world go by from the front porch.
Something New
Things are a bit different this week: FanSided has a new source provider for their burgeoning podcast network, and thus we have a bit of a different delivery vehicle for you.
Your subscriptions should still work just fine… they just ultimately point to a different place than they did last week.
Our inline player (above) is different, but should still work … well, like most inline players do.
What we don’t have anymore is a direct download link. Dunno why, but I guess some things were bound to change, and if that’s the only casualty… then maybe that’s one we can live with.
Otherwise, we appreciate your patronage of the podcast, as it’s still mostly a labor of love… a way we can talk about these topics at better length. Hopefully this attempt at analysis provide a useful ‘take’ on the news of the week for our Atlanta Braves.
