Atlanta Braves re-acquire infielder Ehire Adrianza in trade with Nationals
For the second time this season, the Atlanta Braves traded for a former member of the 2021 World Series team.
The Atlanta Braves began their trade deadline deals on Monday by announcing that the team would be re-acquiring utility infielder Ehire Adrianza from the Washington Nationals. Minor league outfielder Trey Harris was sent to Washington in exchange.
To make room for Adrianza, the Braves announced that Robinson Cano would be designated for assignment. The veteran Cano hit .154 in nine games for Atlanta.
In 31 games this year, Adrianza has hit .179 with seven RBIs. He will likely see his numbers improve with the Braves with Ozzie Albies still on the injured list.
Adrianza, now in his 10th MLB season, is a career .240 hitter with an 81 OPS+. He spent the first four years of his career with the San Francisco Giants before joining the Minnesota Twins.
He signed with the Braves in 2021 and proved to be one of the better pinch hitters in the league. He led all pinch hitters with eight extra base hits and was second with 12 RBIs.
His most memorable moment as a Brave last season happened during a game against the Phillies in May. After a Pablo Sandoval game tying home run in the 9th inning, the Braves and Phillies duked it out for 12 innings. Atlanta was down three runs in the bottom of the 12th, but they managed to tie the game up.
Adrianza would smack a walk off single to right field to give the Braves an 8-7 victory. Adrianza was 3-for-3 in that game.
Trey Harris, who was drafted by the Braves back in 2018, had a line of .238/.338/.323 with two home runs and 16 RBIs in 59 AA games. The Huntsville, AL native rose quickly through the Atlanta farm system in 2019, being promoted three times that year alone. Overall, Harris has a .284 career batting average in the minor leagues.
This is the second former Brave that has been brought back to Atlanta this year. Jesse Chavez was acquired from the Chicago Cubs earlier in the year and has become a staple of the Braves bullpen. Hopefully Adrianza can have similar success as he returns to the Braves.
