Rumor: Atlanta Braves reportedly checking in on Brandon Drury

The Atlanta Braves are reportedly calling about the status of breakout player Brandon Drury ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi shared that Atlanta Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos and company reportedly checked in on the utilityman, with the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Dodgers also making contact.

With many teams reportedly checking in on the status of Brandon Drury, he could be moved sooner than later.

The Reds have already traded All-Star pitcher Luis Castillo to the Mariners and outfielder Tyler Naquin to the Mets, with more moves expected from the team, as they sit with the fifth-worst record in baseball (40-61).

After signing a minor league contract with the Reds on March 21, he asserted himself as one of the most productive offensive players on their roster. On Opening Day, Drury went 2-4 with a home run and three RBI against the Atlanta Braves.

So far this season, Drury is slashing .272/.332/.513 with 19 home runs and 58 RBI. Drury also boasts a team-leading 177 total bases, while his 125 OPS+ also leads all Cincinnati Reds with at least 200 plate appearances.

Drury has played every infield position with the Reds at some point this season, seeing time in right field for a game as well. He’s also played 12 games at designated hitter. At all of his defensive positions, Drury has showcased solid defensive abilities, ranking in the 62nd percentile of baseball in outs above average.

Oddly enough, Drury was drafted by the Braves in the 13th round of the 2010 MLB Draft, playing in Atlanta’s minor league system for three seasons.

He was a part of the 2013 trade that brought Justin Upton and Chris Johnson to the Braves, being included in a package with Martín Prado, Randall Delgado, Zeke Spruill, and Nick Ahmed.

With the Reds expected to sell heading into the upcoming trade deadline, the utilityman could be a great pickup for the Atlanta Braves at the right price.
