The Atlanta Braves promoted top prospect Jared Shuster to Gwinnett today! Big news for the pitcher who is having a breakout year.
The Atlanta Braves made news today by promoting a top pitching prospect to Gwinnett. Jared Shuster will move from Mississippi to Gwinnett.
The Braves top draft pick in 2020, Shuster had a slow go of it out of the gate within the organization. This was due to the pandemic riddled season of 2020 and due to an injury in 2021.
He has silenced a lot of critics this season in Mississippi. He appeared in 17 games, with 90.2 innings pitched, a 2.78 ERA, 3.12 FIP, 3.46 xFIP, and 0.96 WHIP.
He is striking out guys at a great rate, with a 30% strikeout rate. Maybe the most impressive statistic, he only walked 6.2% of batters in AA. A pitching prospect with command is always a welcomed site.
Shuster had been pitching well in Mississippi before the promotion. Over his last five starts, he had a 0.94 ERA, 1.84 FIP, and a 0.87 WHIP. He was dominating on the mound with a 36.1% strikeout rate and 4.6% walk rate.
Shuster’s performance this season earned him the honor of pitching in the Futures Game over the All-Star Weekend.
The 2020 draft class has been great so far and looks like another great job by the Braves scouting department. The biggest question mark before this season was Shuster due to his injury.
This season, he has looked like the guy the Braves trusted to use the first selection in a draft that lasted only six rounds.
Hopefully, Shuster hits the ground running in Gwinnett. With a strong few performances for the Stripers, it may not be long before he finds himself in Atlanta.
