It was announced that Adam Duvall would undergo season ending wrist surgery today. How will the Atlanta Braves respond?
Unfortunate news in Atlanta Braves country today as it was announced that Adam Duvall will miss the remainder of the season due to wrist surgery.
It was originally thought to just be a sprain — bad enough — but that turns out to not be the case. It was discovered that Duvall had a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist.
Duvall had a down year at the plate so far, hitting .213/.276/.401 with 12 HR, 39 R, 36 RBI, .295 wOBA, and 86 wRC+.
He was doing a great job holding down centerfield for the Braves, with 2 OAA and 1 DRS before Michael Harris arrived. Once he moved to left, he kept up the solid defense, with 1 OAA.
In fact, his offensive numbers had started to improve after the move to left field. Here are his numbers before and after Michael Harris arrived in Atlanta:
- April 7th- May 27th: .191/.263/.274 with 2 HR, 17 R, 16 RBI, .244 wOBA, and 51 wRC+
- May 28th-July 23rd: .238/.293/.554 with 10 HR, 22 R, 20 RBI, .360 wOBA, and 130 wRC+
That was a great bat to have hitting in the bottom half of the Braves lineup. With Eddie Rosario coming back, the hope for a great lefty/righty platoon was a fun idea.
However, that is not meant to be. Now, Rosario will need to handle left field in a full-time role. It could also push up the need for an outfielder at the trade deadline in the mind of Alex Anthopolous.
It is unfortunate to see a player go down for the year with an injury. Especially someone like Duvall who will be a free agent at year’s end, meaning his tenure with the Braves could be over.
If that is the case, it has been a great ride for Duvall in Atlanta. One with great memories and a World Championship.
