Former Atlanta Braves first round pick Jared Shuster has had an impressive 2022 season up to this point. Could a potential promotion to Triple-A Gwinnett soon be in the works?

The Atlanta Braves No. 7 overall prospect (according to MLB Pipeline), former first-round pick Jared Shuster has been one of the organization’s biggest talking points down on the farm this season.

Having spent the first half of the 2022 season with Double-A Mississippi, Shuster posted a 2.87 ERA with a 98:21 K:BB ratio across his first 16 starts of the season with the Braves. Continuing that first-half success with another strong outing on Friday night to begin the second half, could a potential promotion to Triple-A Gwinnett soon be in the works for Shuster?

Selected to play in the MLB Futures Game over the All-Star break, there are few prospects in the Braves system that have impressed more, not only this season overall, but across the last month in particular, than Shuster.

For example, across his last five appearances in Double-A dating back to June 22, Shuster sports a combined 0.94 ERA across 28.2 IP during that span. Having only allowed three earned runs across those five appearances as well, the left-hander’s 39:5 K:BB rate and .194/.232/.243 slash line against certainly don’t lack either.

Now owning a 2.78 ERA for the year in Double-A, Shuster is quietly having one of the best single seasons of any prospect in the Braves system. Could the former No. 25 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of Wake Forest potentially find himself one step closer to the big leagues in the near future because of it?

No, we will likely not see Shuster make his big league debut in 2022, in part due to the depth of rotation options for the Braves. However, the former first-rounder could easily see a notable amount of action in Triple-A between now and the end of the season should a promotion happen, setting up what could be a major league call-up for Shuster in 2023.
