Despite being promoted to Double-A just this week, Braves’ prospect Vaughn Grissom isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

Grissom took the Atlanta Braves system by storm, showcasing his powerful bat with the High-A Rome Braves early in the season.

After slashing .312/.404/.487 and piling up 11 home runs and 55 RBI in Rome, the Braves’ 11th round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft was promoted to Double-A Mississippi on July 11.

Through his first three games with Mississippi, Vaughn Grissom is 7-for-14 with 10 total bases, compiling a home run and three RBI. He also had three hits in each of his first two games for the team’s Double-A affiliate.

Between his games with Rome and Mississippi, Grissom carries a 40-game on-base streak and looks to continue it as the Mississippi Braves continue their series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

Grissom is now ranked as the number four prospect in Atlanta’s system, sitting behind fellow shortstop Braden Shewmake, who is playing with the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers.

The 21-year-old has showcased his bat in many stellar performances this season, one of which was when Grissom hit a grand slam in back-to-back innings last month during the Braves’ 22-1 rout over the Asheville Tourists, the High-A affiliate of the Houston Astros.

After the recent successes of Michael Harris II and Spencer Strider in the major leagues, the team’s prospect system took a huge hit with their graduation from prospect status. Now, after trading Drew Waters to the Kansas City Royals, the Braves look to rebuild their farm system.

With the way Grissom is playing right now, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him stay near the top of the prospect rankings after top prospect Kyle Muller and second-ranked Bryce Elder make their way to the major leagues.
