The Atlanta Braves will send five players to Los Angeles for the 2022 MLB All-Star game.
Major League Baseball announced the full rosters for the 2022 All-Star game today. The Atlanta Braves will be well represented.
Here are your All-Stars for your Atlanta Braves.
Ronald Acuña Jr.
We have known Ronald Acuña Jr was an All-Star for some time now. As the leading vote getter in the National League during phase 1 of voting, Acuña was automatically awarded a starting spot.
This shows the efforts of Braves Country voting because Ronnie has missed a lot of time this season. While he has played well since returning, it has not yet been the typical Acuña that we know and love.
He is currently hitting .274/.369/.433 with 8 HR, 36 R, 22 RBI, 17 SB, .352 wOBA, and 125 wRC+. He has been solid defensively, but it does appear he may not be fully comfortable in the outfield less than a year from the knee injury. He has a 1.6 bWAR and 1.5 fWAR.
Either way, it is an honor to see Acuña in the All-Star game. Something he did not get to experience in 2021 when he was mor than deserving. It is his third All-Star selection.
Max Fried
The Atlanta Braves will send their Ace Max Fried to Hollywood for the All-Star game.
Fried has been excellent this year for the Braves, with a 2.52 ERA, 2.81 xERA, 2.50 FIP, 2.94 xFIP, 3.20 SIERA, and 1.02 WHIP. This includes a 23.5% strikeout rate and 4.0% walk rate.
Overall, he has been worth 4.3 bWAR and 3.2 fWAR.
We have watched Fried turn into a true Ace. One that has given the team a shot to win every 5th day. His first All-Star selection is well deserved.
Dansby Swanson
Dansby Swanson’s phenomenal 2022 season is rewarded with his first selection to the All-Star game.
Arguably the Braves MVP to this point in the season, Swanson is hitting .302/.357/.491 with 14 HR, 54 R, 50 RBI, 14 SB, .368 wOBA, and 136 wRC+. After an atrocious start to the season, Swanson has carried the Braves with his offense.
He has also been as reliable as ever defensively, with a 2 DRS across 767.1 innings. Swanson has done it all this year as evident by his 3.4 bWAR and 4.0 fWAR.
Travis d’Arnaud
The veteran backstop has really found a home in Atlanta over the past few seasons. After bouncing around between a couple teams for a few years, Travis d’Arnaud landed with the Braves prior to the 2020 season and has made a name for himself.
That name now includes 2022 All-Star next to it.
d’Arnaud is hitting .267/.318/.480 with 11 HR, 34 R, 37 RBI, .346 wOBA, and 120 wRC+ for the Braves.
He has also done a phenomenal job managing the Braves pitching staff. d’Arnaud has also shown he is an excellent framer as he ranks 2nd in all of baseball with 5 Catcher Framing Runs.
His 2.2 fWAR shows he is on pace to having his best season of his career.
Travis d’Arnaud has endeared himself to Braves country and it is rewarded with an All-Star selection.
William Contreras
A contender for biggest surprise of the year, William Contreras will also make his first All-Star appearance. He will take over for the injured Bryce Harper as the starter at DH for the National League.
Splitting time between catcher and DH, Contreras has hit .266/.350/.568 with 11 HR, 22 R, 22 RBI, 2 SB, .392 wOBA, and 152 wRC+. This includes some clutch moments at the plate for the Braves.
His defense has even improved when asked to play behind the plate. He may not be the best framer at this point in his career, but this has been a welcomed step in the right direction.
“Wild Bill” Contreras has provided a 1.5 bWAR and 1.4 fWAR this season and has made the Braves front office look great for trusting him in the long run.
The Braves got five All-Stars in 2022. Showing just how special this club has been following a World Series title.
Arguably, guys like Austin Riley, Kyle Wright, AJ Minter, and even Spencer Strider could be considered “snubs” from the event with their level of play.
Either way, it will be nice to see the Braves well represented in Hollywood this year.
