There are some significant career milestones are on the horizon for Atlanta Braves players to achieve this season.

A few Atlanta Braves players have some career milestones in reach for this season, but some may have to wait until next season to hit those milestones.  First, let’s look at position player milestones, then we’ll look at milestones for the pitchers.

Austin Riley – Riley currently has 79 home runs in his career. With 21 more home runs, Riley will reach 100 home runs in his career home runs. To reach this milestone in the 2022 season, Riley will have to end the season with 41 home runs. I do not think any of us will put that past him given the way he was been swinging the bat recently.

Travis d’Arnaud – dArnaud is only 10 home runs away from reaching his 100th career home run. dArnaud also only needs to throw out 7 more stealing base runners to reach 100 career baserunners caught stealing. dArnaud has 4,986 putouts and needs to make 22 more putouts to reach 5,000 in his career. Once dArnaud hits the 5,000 mark for putouts, he will need 694 more putouts to pass hall of fame catcher Ernie Lombardi to enter the top 100 list for all-time catcher putouts.

Marcell Ozuna – Ozuna probably has the largest offensive milestones to reach of current Braves players. Ozuna currently has 189 home runs and is 11 home runs shy of 200. Ozuna is also 8 doubles away from reaching 200 career doubles. With one more home run, Ozuna will reach his 190th HR, surpassing Nick Markakis on the MLB all-time HR list and tying the aforementioned Lombardi.

Dansby Swanson – Swanson has been on fire in June and appears to be bringing his success into July. Swanson is on track with Riley and d’Arnaud but is only 9 home runs away from reaching his 100th career home run. Do you think Swanson will reach this before the end of the season?

Ozzie Albies – Albies is only 2 home runs away from reaching his 100th career home run which he is most likely to achieve if he returns to the lineup during the regular season after fracturing his foot on a foul ball last month.

Matt Olson – Unless Olson goes on an unworldly tear, it will take until the 2023 season for him to reach 500 career RBIs as he needs 80 more to reach the mark.

Adam Duvall – Similar to Olson, Duvall is a little closer to the 500 RBI mark. Duvall has 474 career RBIs and needs 26 more to hit the mark.

Ronald Acuña Jr – Acuña is about to reach two milestones and has a chance to do them both this season.  Acuña needs 21 more hits to reach 500 career hits and needs 5 more stolen bases to reach 100 career stolen bases.

Eddie Rosario – Rosario needs a bit more playing time to reach his major milestones and may have to do so in a different uniform. Regardless, Rosario has 839 hits and 450 RBIs as he closes in on 1,000 career hits and 500 career RBIs.

Now let’s look at the pitchers!

Jesse Chavez – On July 4th, 2022 versus the Reds, Chavez pitched 2 innings, putting him over 1,000 innings pitched for his career. Jesse needs 92 more strikeouts to reach 1,000 career K’s. Chavez has 40 K’s so far in the 2022 season.

Max Fried – With two more wins, Fried will earn his 50th career win as a pitcher. On May 29th, 2022 versus the Marlins, Fried recorded his 500th career strikeout.

Collin McHugh – McHugh has 899 innings pitched and 887 strikeouts. After a bit more playing time, McHugh will achieve what Chavez just did with 1,000 innings pitched, but needs more time to reach 1,000 career strikeouts.

Will Smith – As a closer, and with the temporary absence of Kenley Jansen, we may see Will Smith get 9 more saves to reach his 100th career save as a major league closer.

In Conclusion

Many Braves players are on the cusp of 100 career home runs, Ozuna is closing in on his 200th career home run, and other significant milestones are going to be met very soon.

In looking at career milestones, I found Charlie Morton currently leads all active MLB pitchers in hit-by-pitches in 2022 with 10 and leads all current MLB pitchers in career hit-by-pitches with 148 total career HBP.
