It’s the end of an era for another popular Atlanta Braves prospect.

After seven seasons in the Atlanta Braves system, it was announced Sunday evening that the organization traded pitcher Touki Toussaint to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations.

The Angels added Toussaint to their 40-man roster shortly after the trade was announced, designating veteran infielder Jack Mayfield in a corresponding move.

Atlanta announced Toussaint was designated for assignment on Saturday after reinstating pitcher Jay Jackson from the 60-day injured list and placing him on the 40-man roster.

After making the choice to designate him for assignment, the Braves had 10 days with him on the waiver wire to move him in a trade, await a waiver claim, or part ways with him after the decision.  Had he cleared waivers, he could have been outrighted to the minors.

During Toussaint’s time with the Braves, he totaled 145 innings pitched and compiled a 5.46 ERA, seeing time as a starter and reliever during his time in the major leagues. He averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game during his major league appearances.

Toussaint played the entire 2022 season with the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers, appearing in 13 games and totaling 41-2/3 innings. During his time with the Stripers, he compiled a 6.26 ERA, walking 25 batters while striking out 53.

A first-round pick by the Diamondbacks, Toussaint was traded to the Braves along with pitcher Bronson Arroyo for infielder Phil Gosselin.

Toussaint became a fan favorite during his stint with the Atlanta Braves, with many on social media wishing him success immediately after the trade was announced by the Braves organization.

At 26, Toussaint still has plenty of time to find his stride in the major leagues, as he looks to get a fresh start for a Los Angeles Angels team that needs help on their pitching staff.

Toussaint will look to return to Truist Park when the Braves host the Angels in a three-game series from Friday, July 22 to Sunday, June 24.
