They needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, so they used their other obvious move: Transferring Eddie Rosario to the 60-day IL.
This marks the second waiver claim the Braves have made this week after the club claimed infielder Joe Dunand off waivers from the Miami Marlins on June 1, also optioning him to the Gwinnett Stripers after he was signed.
More about the Dunand signing here:
The former Louisiana State standout played all of his minor league games with the Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cardinals.
In 2022 with Memphis, Robertson slashed .220/.398/.371 while piling up five home runs and 17 RBI. He is also an effective baserunner, swiping 12 bags during his time in Memphis. Robertson has also drawn plenty of walks, having been walked in 19.3% of his plate appearances this season.
Robertson was promoted to the major leagues on May 10, making his debut that night as a pinch runner in the Cardinals’ 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
One day later, Robertson made his first and only plate appearance with St. Louis, picking up an RBI off of a groundout that brought home Brendan Donovan in the 10-1 win over the O’s.
Robertson was designated for assignment on June 3 when the Cardinals promoted pitcher Zack Thompson, who made his MLB debut that night.
Interestingly enough, Robertson is the son of college basketball legend Kim Mulkey, who coached Baylor’s women’s basketball team for 21 seasons and won three national championships before making the move to coach at LSU.

Ultimately, this is another depth move for the Braves’ minor league infield group, with newcomers Robertson and Dunand joining up with Phil Gosselin, Braden Shewmake, Pat Valaika and the rest of the infielders in Gwinnett.
