Why can’t Johnny hit?  When it comes to the Atlanta Braves, there’s several players whose names could be called ‘Johnny’ as part of that question.

While Denver is a good place for hittings to find their stroke, the Atlanta Braves are still — despite Thursday night’s outburst — having trouble getting consistent hitting going.

On Friday, the team finally managed to push across a couple of runs in extra innings to avoid wasting a brilliant outing by Max Fried after getting beat on a double-steal attempt in the first inning that could have set them up on cruise control for the night.

In this podcast, Fred and Alan talk about Ozzie Albies and Adam Duvall more specifically as their hitting — or lack thereof — is a key part of this team’s poor overall offensive production.

While Albies has clawed his average up to .249 as of this writing, both players are still well off their traditional career marks for average, and Duvall’s home run production has evaporated into thin air.

In Duvall’s case, it’s pretty much a Dan-Uggla-level dropoff from just last season.  While he only hit .228 for the year (that was actually higher while he was still a Marlin), Duvall did at least club 38 total homers for the season.

But we talk about that, the chances of the Braves getting back into the playoff race, the prospects for trade deadline help, and more… even about the hassle of finding a Braves game on TV when there are so many different networks that you can find baseball on these days.
