After a rough night on Tuesday, the Atlanta Braves bounced back with a perfect win on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks to get back on track.
The character of a team is usually defined by how they respond to adversity. This Atlanta Braves team has faced a lot of self-afflicted adversity this year, but each time they bounce back.
Once again they were in jeopardy of losing three games in a row and came through with a win. Avoiding long losing streaks is keeping the Braves afloat until hopefully a long winning streak comes along.
Kyle Wright struggled with fastball command at times once again and walked five batters, but he never caved and pitched 6 scoreless innings. Getting through that sixth inning, something Charlie Morton failed to do on Tuesday, was huge for helping save the bullpen.
And then the Braves finally got some add-on rates late in a game to make for a stress-free ending in 6-0 win. Austin Riley had the key blow with a 3-run homer in the 7th.
That home run allowed Brian Snitker to go with Collin McHugh in the 7th and then bring him back out for the 8th, which again, was huge for saving the bullpen.
William Contreras was back in the lineup and continued hitting picking up 3 on the — including a pair of doubles.
Everyone in the lineup had a hit except Matt Olson, but he did draw a bases-loaded walk in the 9th for another add-on run.
This was a perfect win for the Braves after the heart-breaking loss in extras on Tuesday. But it was also great because it saved their best bullpen arms as they get set to begin a four-game series in Colorado.
The Braves are now 7-6 on this 29-game stretch against sub .500 teams. They really have to pick it up over these next 16 games to try and make some ground in the standings.
