Podcast S3E12: Outfield hand-wringing, Dansby, Soroka, more

"Off Leo's Rocker" talks about an Atlanta Braves team that's on a serious roll.

The Atlanta Braves are still trying to figure out how to put together an actual 3-game streak — win or lose — as the old guys in the rocking chairs muse about solving their problems.

Timing is everything.  We talk about that with the Atlanta Braves and their schedule (“it’s not necessarily who you play, but when you play them”), and the same is true when you’re talking about the team in a podcast.

Fred and I talked about the outfield… that Travis Demeritte hasn’t been hitting, that Guillermo Heredia‘s glove is the only thing keeping him in the majors, that playing a catcher in left field — even one hitting like William Contreras — is a bad idea… and we really didn’t have much of an idea about how the Braves could overcome these problems.

That was Thursday.  Today… well, it seems that Alex Anthopoulos had caught the Advance Copy version of the podcast and decided that he was over his own hand-wringing about the outfield, too.  Except that he had a plan.

So one thing you won’t hear about this week is any mention of Michael Harris II.  That’s because we had both figured — silently — that Harris would get promoted to AAA Gwinnett and then maybe get consideration for the majors around the time of September callups.

I was personally hoping that the AAA promotion would linger at least one more full week, as I have tickets to see the M-Braves on June 7.

Yeah.  About that…

So instead, maybe we can interest you in the value of Dansby Swanson as we approach his “walk” year.  Or perhaps the news about Mike Soroka and his return to the mound this coming week.  Or perhaps a chat about the Braves and technology.

Regardless, we do have a discussion to share, and we’re happy to do it.  Here’s the particulars:

  • Most major podcast hosting sites have it… if you’re subscribed, then you probably already know this.
  • If you’d like to download the audio directly from here, then here ya go.
  • If you’d rather skip all that, then just mash the ‘play’ button on this player below:

Regardless of how you check this out, thank you for doing so.  Fred and I appreciate your participation in the process.  Hopefully you’ll find most of this useful and enlightening.

Let’s now just see if our Atlanta Braves can make some good news to talk about next week!
