After impressing in limited action a year ago, Atlanta Braves prospect Andrew Hoffmann has continued that success to begin the 2022 season.

A 12th round pick by the Atlanta Braves in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Illinois where he was one of the Big Ten’s top starters a year ago, Andrew Hoffmann may be a name that not to many fans are familiar with.

Making his professional debut with Low-A Augusta last season, Hoffmann impressed during limited action by posting a 2.73 ERA across seven starts with a 37:8 K:BB. Holding opponents to a .198 AVG across those 29.2 IP, the 6-foot-5 right-hander would conclude the year ranked among the bottom of Atlanta’s Top 30 prospects.

Coming off that strong 2021 campaign, Hoffmann has seen success once again to begin the 2022 season, one that is seeing the 22-year-old quickly becoming a name to know in the Atlanta Braves system.

Atlanta’s No. 24 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Hoffmann began the 2022 season with High-A Rome where the right-hander has so far made a total of eight starts with the Braves. Across those eight starts, Hoffmann has posted a 2-2 record with a 3.15 ERA across 40 IP, holding opponents to a .236 AVG with a 49:12 K:BB.

Holding a 11.1 K/9 across the last two seasons, Hoffmann may not have some of the same “eye-popping” stuff and velocity as other arms in the Braves system, but has shown the ability to get swing-and-miss since making his professional debut a year ago. What Hoffmann does have however is some of the best control of any arm in Atlanta’s system, which grades as a 55 on MLB’s 20/80 scale.
