It was reported late Monday night that Atlanta Braves outfielder Eddie Rosario would be undergoing a laser procedure on his right eye.

Late Monday evening, rumblings of an injury to Eddie Rosario started making their way around social media.

Screenshots from Carlos Baerga’s Instagram began to surface, reporting that Eddie Rosario will be out of action due to an eye injury.

Eventually, the Atlanta Braves would confirm the news.

Rosario appears to be having an issue with his right eye. The initial report says swelling that is causing blurred vision. This could explain Rosario’s poor start to the season.

Rosario has started the season hitting .068/.163/.091 zero home runs, zero RBI, and only four runs scored. This includes a .134 wOBA and -21 wRC+.

He has also struggled defensively in right field, totaling a -5 DRS and -3 OAA in 96 innings. This includes a few glaring mistakes over the last few games.

However, it is important to note that he has been better in left field, albeit in only 15 innings (1 DRS 0 OAA). He has been occupying right field while Ronald Acuña Jr rehabs.

It was apparent that something was off with him to begin the 2022 season, as he currently has a -1 fWAR through 15 games. While most were worried it was a mechanical issue, we now know that his struggles are due, in part, to this eye injury.

When the Braves signed him to the two-year contract, with a club option for 2024, they were hoping to get the NLCS MVP to start the year. The guy that played a massive role in leading the Braves to the 2021 World Series.

Unfortunately, Rosario, and the Braves, got off to a sluggish start to the championship defense tour. While this is a small setback, hopefully he can return in short notice and get back to being the player that Braves country fell in love with.

Get well Eddie.
