One last push for a Freddie and Atlanta Braves extension

Now that the Atlanta Braves have clinched the team’s fourth straight NL East division title, one thing of importance remains.

We here have talked about it all summer and really even dating back to last season, but this is truly the last chance at a Freddie Freeman and Atlanta Braves extension before he hits the open market in a few weeks.

The end result — whether it be now or sometime before February — will most likely end up with Freddie still donning the Braves jersey and logo on his hat, but I do not like the idea of some other teams being even able to talk to Freddie and/or his agent. Teams like the Angels, Giants, Padres (and you can never count out the Dodgers) will certainly at worst have a conversation.

If you believe the DH will be added, that most likely adds a couple more clubs to the mix as well.

It’s a fact that Freddie does not want to leave the organization. He has said as much in recent days and is the face of the organization at this point in time.

Beloved by a city and region has not been seen like this around the Braves since well over a decade ago. Heck, Freddie Freeman’s son has even become a little bit of a Rockstar around Braves country.

The Atlanta Braves will open up their playoffs against the Brewers next Friday. A week exactly from the writing of this. That gives Braves general manager Alex Anthopolous and Freddie and all his representatives a good amount of time to try and come to some sort of an agreement.

The 2020 NL MVP (and most likely top 10 vote-getter this season) will certainly want to be paid and rightfully so. Although I do believe he will not be commanding something like Mike Trout or Mookie Betts money.

Perhaps all parties celebrated a little long last night and came to an agreement while they were a little out of their normal mind that will be announced later today? We could only hope to be so lucky, right?

Again, the bottom line is odds are still in favor that the Braves and Freddie Freeman work something out but man, it would be nice to have even more momentum on the team’s side before we start another run in the playoffs next week.

So let’s just put this to bed and get some sort of an agreement done over the next 7 days, please?
