We take a look at Atlanta Braves 2B Ozzie Albies season and how he’s stepped up for the Braves since Marcell Ozuna’s arrest.

Ozzie Albies is having yet another wonderful season for the Atlanta Braves. This season, his success will be critically tied to the ultimate success of the team by the season’s end.

Marcell Ozuna’s arrest left a huge hole in the lineup. Ozzie has stepped up and found himself consistently hitting out of the three-hole for the Braves. It’s been an amazing turnaround from where he was early on in the season. One of our dumbest writers even took aim at Albies in the following article.

Let’s take an updated look at how things are going now!

Doubles

Not only is Albies tied for the lead among second basemen in doubles this season, but he’s also tied for third among all players. His 21 doubles are just two behind the leaders, Adam Frazier of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Nicholas Castellanos of the Cincinnati Reds.

The diminutive second sacker finds himself with more doubles than sluggers such as Nolan Arenado, Rafael Devers, and Xander Bogaerts.

Triples

Albies is tied for the league lead in triples with five. His aggressive baserunning, power to the gaps, and speed around the bags have him on a torrid pace in 2021.

Total Extra-Base Hits

Albies is fourth in all of baseball with 36 extra-base hits. That is good enough to place him ahead of superstar teammates Ronald Acuña Jr. and 2020 MVP Freddie Freeman.

More Power Numbers

Ozzie has broken the double-digit mark and is on pace for another 20+ homer season. Albies is tied for 21st in Major League Baseball and leads all second basemen in RBI with 43.

Hitting Third

Among players with at least 80 plate appearances from the three-hole, Albies has the seventh-best average from the spot at .312.

Twelve of his 24 hits as the third hitter have gone for extra bases.

Despite only appearing in 19 games this season as the third hitter, Albies is tied for 14th in total doubles from the spot. His eight doubles as a three-hitter have him tied with the likes of Mike Trout (141 PAs), Jesús Aguilar (171 PAs), and Bryce Harper (181 PAs). Ozzie has done his damage in just 84 PAs.

As the number three hitter, Ozzie Albies is slugging .532, just ahead of Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.

Ozzie Albies Leading Braves Since Marcell Ozuna’s Arrest

Since Marcell Ozuna’s arrest, Ozzie Albies has stepped up. He leads all Braves with 17 RBI.

His .317 average is second only to Acuña’s .328.

Naturally, he leads all Braves in doubles since Ozuna’s arrest. He is slugging .521 with a .896 OPS since May 29th.

Cheers to Ozzie and let us hope that he continues to help extend the Braves lineup as the team prepares for a massive winning streak!
