The Atlanta Braves starting pitching unit have to get better.
It’s the part of the Atlanta Braves that was supposed to be improved from last year, and so far, we have seen meddling results. On Wednesday, it was Charlie Morton’s turn to turn in less than impressive results.
It seemed the fastball command was off as was the crispness of his patented curveball.
This of course follows shaky starts by Max Fried, and Drew Smyly who both have not turned in a great start yet. It has to turn around quick for the Atlanta Braves to start winning ballgames. It undoubtedly will as the team has too much talent for it not too.
Hopefully Ian Anderson can start that process by righting the ship on Thursday afternoon against the Marlins.
A couple more quick notes from Wednesday night contests.
- Former Atlanta Braves player Adam Duvall obviously loves playing in Truist Park as on Wednesday it was his defense haunting his former team.
- I have no idea why Ender did not bunt Riley over in the 9th inning when he instead grounded into a double play. The right play should have been to bunt Ender over and let Pablo and Acuna try to knock him in to win the game.
- The bottom of this Braves lineup needs to start producing. The Braves can not have a Swanson-Riley-Inciarte-Pitcher bottom of the lineup that does not produce. Hopefully the front offices and coaches figure it out before it is too late.
So that covers the Wednesday night game. Hopefully the Atlanta Braves can avoid the sweep on Thursday afternoon as the two teams finish the series out.
