The Atlanta Braves fell once again to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night. With the extra inning loss, that brings them to both 0-3 in this series against Miami and for the season in extra innings.

The losses and frustration are starting to mount up early in the season for the Atlanta Braves. Once again though, it is early still.

If this was last season, I would be beyond panicked, but with the 2021 season being “normal” it gives the Atlanta Braves a little more wiggle room.

No doubt though, the boys have a lot of things to figure out but with the talent on this roster, I do not have any doubts they will get it going.

Let’s recap the action from Wednesday though.

This new extra inning rule that was implemented in 2020 and kept for the 2021 season can go away as fast as it came here.

I do not like the rule at all and never did once it was announced. So far in 2021, extra innings has not been nice to the Atlanta Braves either. With the loss on Wednesday, the Atlanta braves have fell to 0-3 on the season and have not scored a run in extra’s despite starting each inning with a runner on 2nd base.

Despite the Marlins scoring a run in the top of the 10th, I felt good about the Braves chances as they had Inciarte on second, and the top of the lineup coming to the plate.

The Atlanta Braves did get Inciarte to third, but it was too little too late as they were not able to find that elusive clutch hit that has evaded them all season up to this point.

The whole point of the rule is gimmicky and does not feel real to baseball at least for me. The Braves (or any team) because they let in a bloop hit only for the relief pitcher to strike out the next three guys. I might be in the minority but it is starting to feel like you just have to be lucky to win a extra inning game now.

I will say this though, the Atlanta Braves have to do a much better job of trying to advance the runner on the first batter to increase the odds of scoring via a sac fly or passed ball or etc. So far, their approach has been to just try and mash a two run home run.

Something has got to change in that regard.
