Atlanta Braves Podcast 27: Ian Anderson and the trade deadline
The podcast talks about injuries, a great pitching debut, and the state of the trade deadline for the Atlanta Braves.
As of this writing, it’s 48½ hours until the MLB trade deadline hits, and the Atlanta Braves are still holding their cards tightly to the vest.
The bigger question right now might be this: who could you even get?
Right now, the Human Trade Rumor is Lance Lynn of the Rangers, who seems to be the name attached to the Blue Jays, Padres, White Sox, and Dodgers… as a minimum.
The Atlanta Braves have not been formally connected to him, but there’s Good Reason to expect that there’s at least been contact between Alex Anthopoulos and the Rangers. You can’t ever count the Yankees out, either.
Of all deals, this one could have the most momentum as well, since he’s currently scheduled to pitch tonight. If the Rangers are getting acceptable offers, I’d expect him to be pulled from the lineup. That’s something we should know… pretty soon.
In the meantime, the podcast topics today included a discussion about who might even be a trade partner — including a couple of off-the-wall ideas involving Seattle and Colorado.
We talked also about our reactions to Ian Anderson’s start, a contingency plan from Fred to cover for Ozzie Albies’ absence, and the “who’s in/who’s out” part of the buyers and sellers.
That last topic is highly fluid right now. Two days ago, it appeared that the Cincinnati Reds were heading into a direction that would compel them to sell off starter Trevor Bauer. Today, various reports suggest that the Reds are still ‘going for it’, and aren’t interested in selling anybody.
We’ll see if they hold to that. So here’s that audio — it’s a quicker one this week.

Thanks for listening… it’s just about ‘go time’ for the GM’s of baseball to Fish or Cut Bait.
