The Atlanta Braves continue to have a busy day with the roster as they get their veteran outfielder back but have to option out their top prospect.

It’s a bitter-sweet day for Atlanta Braves fans as we finally get the return of Nick Markakis to the roster. But with that we had to see top prospect Cristian Pache sent back to the training site in Gwinnett.

Markakis has been out for nearly a week after coming in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. We don’t know the full details of what happened, nor should we, but I do appreciate Nick’s honesty and taking the cautious route.

As far as I know, Nick never tested positive, which is great.

Having Nick back gives the Braves a solid left-handed bat in the lineup. Matt Adams has been trying to fill that role, but quite honestly, he’s better suited off the bench.

I know Admas has his moments, but for the most part, he hasnt’ been very good this year.

So I’m certainly glad to have Markakis back in the lineup. And here is the full lineup for Tuesday nights game with Ronald Acuna Jr. also back in the lineup and Ian Anderson making his debut on the mound.

Why Did the Atlanta Braves Option Cristian Pache?

However, like many of you, I was very disappointed to see Pache optioned back to Gwinnett.

And I understand why it had to be him, that’s not why I’m upset. It’s just frustrating that you call up your top prospect and start him in one game.

I get that one game was canceled or else he would have gotten another start, but I just selfishly wanted to see more of Pache and what he could do. This was the biggest tease ever.

Fans are going to complain that Ender Inciarte should have gotten the ax, but the Braves aren’t just going to cut him for nothing.

I’m sure Alex Anthopoulos is looking for a trade that involves Ender, but until that happens or another injury happens, Inciarte will be on the active roster.

I thought the Braves could have cut Adams to keep Pache on the active roster, but it’s more important to have that lefty bat off the bench.

They also could have cut Charlie Culberson, but I think they like his versatility and leadership, and they likely would have lost him through waivers.

Unfortunately, this is how it has to be for now. But with the trade deadline in just a few days I expect to see a lot more roster shake-up this week.
