Podcast Episode 21: fantasy draft and all things Atlanta Braves

So what happens when a dozen-ish Atlanta Braves fans get together for an evening?

Everything about our Atlanta Braves has been missed since the season was supposed to start nearly four months ago.  As a result, we’re going to change up a few things this Summer as the 2020 season finally gets underway this week.

One of these things is a bit more Braves-centric fantasy baseball coverage.  If you’re going to enjoy this mini-season to its fullest, a fantasy baseball league is one way to get that done.

So as we’ve teased over the past few days, we recorded the stream of our draft with copious bits of commentary included.  Along the way, a lot of other topics were dealt with as well:  the Tomahawk Chop, the ‘Braves’ name, playoff predictions, and general draft philosophies.

We’ve already had a couple of posts to talk about the draft results (here and here), but there’s still time for you to get involved in your own league via either yahoo or ESPN.

If you get this far in the podcast, do realize that we did this draft last Thursday evening — after the initial news about Yasiel Puig broke, but before the subsequent news that he’d popped a positive COVID-19 test, so at the time, there was some excitement among a group that thought he’d be a Brave.

This was long, but it was fun — honestly, the time kind of flew by as everyone was making their picks at a fairly rapid pace.  Rob Manfred would have been proud.

As for the league, there have already been a couple of post-draft transactions:  OF Adam Eaton was dropped in favor of C Christian Vazquez (Ball Ground Bulldogs team).

I did the other one, dropping INF Starlin Castro in favor of St. Louis reliever (and possible closer) Ryan Helsley (For Sale: Dented Trash Cans team).

In other news today, my 21st round pick on Thursday (Didi Gregorius) homered off of Max Scherzer in the first inning of the Phillies/Nats exhibition contest today.

Just sayin’.
