Atlanta Braves: Predicting the 60-man roster for Spring Training 2.0
First 30 — Starting Pitchers
Starting Pitchers (7): Mike Soroka, Cole Hamels, Max Fried, Mike Foltynewicz, Sean Newcomb, Felix Hernandez, and Kyle Wright.
Speaking of depth, there might not be another team in baseball with as good of pitching depth as the Braves have, and that could become crucial in a short season.
I think the Braves carry all of these guys to the main camp, but I’m not sure all of them make the 30-man roster. But I think it’s imperative to size them all up against the best hitters and see where they all stand.
In the first spring training Newcomb, Felix, and Wright were all throwing the ball so well that they all deserved a roster spot.
And with Alex Anthopoulos talking about limiting starters innings early in the season, it’s possible they carry all of these starters and let them piggy-back on each other.
It also sounds like Hamels should be ready to go once the season starts, which is great news and just deepens their rotation.
While the Braves might not have the dominant aces that the Mets and Nationals have atop their rotation, none of those rotations go seven-deep like the Braves.
And with other teams also likely to limit their starters’ innings early in the year, that could greatly benefit the Braves.
