Atlanta Braves podcast episode 19: a chat with Carlos Collazo

The history of this site is getting fairly substantial as TomahawkTake is closing in on 10,000 lifetime stories about the Atlanta Braves over the past 11 years.

Writers come and writers go, but we do have one “graduate” who has since made a name for himself as the national writer on the MLB draft and draft prospects:  Carlos Collazo.

This week, Fred Owens reminded Carlos of his roots here and persuaded him (somehow) to sit in with us and discuss several different aspects of this year’s MLB draft… both the good parts and even the not-so-good parts.

Ultimately, Carlos believes there’s reasons for fans to be encouraged, both by the manner in which the Atlanta Braves conducted their draft (despite perhaps being poached by some other teams along the way) and in this odd period of signing undrafted free agents that has followed.

WIth everything still in flux regarding the MLB season — and that got ramped up to a whole new level when you consider the recent COVID-19 outbreaks among players for the Phillies and Blue Jays — the MLB Draft was truly one of the few things that went off without a delay this year.

Even so, the drastic cut from 40 rounds to five rounds is part of the kind of changes we’ve all been seeing in our adjusted lives this Spring.  As it happens, that change portends more changes to come in the following years — and that’s part of our discussion, too.
