We take a look at some Atlanta Braves prospects who could sneak onto the roster in a shortened 2020 season that could play big roles.

As of now we still don’t know exactly what a 2020 season will look like. But either way, I think we’ll see some surprising prospects make debuts with the Atlanta Braves.

We already know rosters will be expanded in a shortened season, likely to 30 players.

What we don’t know is how the Minor Leagues will be handled. Most likely, we will not have a Minor League season in 2020.

But, I still think we will get some sort of extended spring training for Minor League players where they’ll stay in shape and workout with the team.

And then I think they’ll still open up some sort of taxi squad to add some of those players to the expected 30-man roster if someone gets hurt or something.

Let’s start with some of the obvious prospects who will likely make their debuts in 2020.

Cristian Pache, the Braves’ top prospects, is the one no-doubter as he’s already on the 40-man roster and should be pushing for playing time.

He hit .274 in26 Triple-A games last year, so he at least has experience at that level.

The bigger question is whether or not his outfield mate Drew Waters will make his debut in 2020. I kind of doubt it as the Braves have plenty of depth in the outfield and I think Waters is a little behind Pache.

Ian Anderson is someone else who likely sees time on the Braves roster in 2020, but likely in the bullpen as the Braves have a ton of depth at starter.

One I’m really starting to get excited about is Shea Langeliers. He was really good in the first spring training and is an advanced college player.

I think he’s already passed William Contreras as a prospect, so if something were to happen to one or two of the other catchers on the Braves’ 40-man roster there is a very slight chance we could see Langeliers in 2020.

But I still think it’s about a 15 percent chance that happens.

Kyle Muller and Tucker Davidson are also outside shots to make their debuts in 2020. I think Muller could be a solid addition to the bullpen, while I feel like Davidson could give you a solid 5 innings in a spot start if needed.

I was surprised Patrick Weigel didn’t get in a game last year, but it seems almost certain he’ll make his debut out of the Braves’ pen in 2020.

Those are the main prospects who I think we could see on some sort of taxi squad in a shortened 2020 season with no Minor League season.
