Atlanta Braves: Ronald Acuña Jr. Almost Ready to Overtake Mike Trout?
An article detailing the best players in baseball speculates that Atlanta Braves own Ronald Acuna Jr. could soon take the mantle from Mike Trout.
While we as Atlanta Braves fans try not to get carried away from two great years of Ronald Acuna Jr., we all know what’s possible with this kid in the future.
And apparently, so does Forbes.
An article by Bernie Pleskoff on the Forbes website lists the three best players in baseball, or rather the two guys right behind Mike Trout.
The first player he mentions is the NL MVP runner-up from 2019, Christian Yelich.
Braves fans are very familiar with Yelich and have followed him throughout his career after starting out with Miami. I think most of us knew then he would be a great hitter, but I’m not sure many of us saw him becoming a perennial MVP candidate.
But then Pleskoff tabs Acuna as the player most likely to take the mantle of “best player in baseball” away from Trout.
He goes on to talk about the comparisons to Roberto Clemente when mentioning Acuna’s quick hands and fluid swing at the plate.
And, of course, he mentions the steal the Braves got by not only signing him for just $100,000 but then also locking him up for eight years and $100 million.
Trout is still the king of baseball and likely will be for at least a few more seasons, but I don’t think it would surprise anyone — and especially not Braves fans — if Acuna is next in line.
The 22-year-old has already done some amazing things in his first two years of professional baseball.
It’s really sad that we’re missing a good chunk of the 2020 season as we don’t get to see Trout in his prime or Acuan continue to progress into one of the league’s best players.

Hopefully play will return soon and Acuna can eventually supplant Trout as the best player in all of baseball as he helps lead the Braves to a World Series title.
