Who is Charlie Culberson?

Charlie is originally from Rome, GA so he became a hometown hero. His walk-offs were lasting images, imprinting his visage into our minds as a thing of a legend. In 2018 he was making $575,000. His versatility, clutch-hitting, and his class made us love him.

Culberson is a likable guy and that’s why we rooted for him during his struggles in 2019. It’s not every day a player can hit .163 on a month and still garner support from the fans. Charlie was the 2019 Braves nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award this past season.

The nomination for the award helped highlight just how much Charlie Culberson did for the community in and around Atlanta.

His 2019 season ended with a horrific injury. In a game against the Nationals on September 14th, Culberson squared around to bunt and took a 91-mph fastball square to the face. He suffered multiple facial fractures, ending his season. It never crossed my mind that this might be the last time I see Culberson in a Braves uniform.

What kind of clubhouse guy is he? Listen to the emotion in Brian Snitker’s voice while attempting to provide an update on Culberson.
