He’s been out of action for 3 weeks now. Aside from The Riley Factor being a reason…what’s going on with Ender Inciarte?
It really didn’t look like much of an injury at the time, but a lot has transpired since the Atlanta Braves placed Ender Inciarte on the Injured List. At this point, the relative silence is getting deafening.
Here we are on June 11 now… and near as we can know, the return of the Braves’ Gold Glove center fielder still isn’t on the calendar.
In fact, there just hasn’t been a lot of information about his status. Even his twitter account (yes – I can see his tweets) is saying nothing about his condition.
That actually isn’t terribly surprising: if Atlanta was truly missing his production, then fans might be clamoring for more news and the writers might ask more often in response. Austin Riley has more-or-less made sure that this hasn’t been happening.
Let’s review the timeline of events for a minute.
- On May 15th, Inciarte was placed on the Injured List with a lower back tightness.
- From that date, the 1st day he’d be available to rejoin the club would have been May 25th.
- On June 1st, we had this update on his status.

Now we’re at 10 days later… and not much is going on right now. No announcement of rehab games, no word of any setbacks… pretty much nothing.
Where do the Braves go from here?
Couple of points:
- Obviously, the play of Austin Riley has helped the team in a decision to ‘slow-roll’ Inciarte’s return. Back injuries are tricky things, for sure, but it’s getting more difficult to continue believing that Inciarte is still hurting, for we would normally expect more consistent status updates.
- That leads to this, then: what is Inciarte’s future? Sorry, but that answer is going to require a whole lot more than just a quick remark on a bullet list.
