The Atlanta Braves looked to win their third game in a row on Tuesday evening. Runs were hard to come by as both starting pitchers brought their A-game to the table.
The Atlanta Braves came into Tuesday’s game with the Padres hoping to get a winning streak going.
That would be a tough task as they faced off against Chris Paddack who came into the game with an impressive 1.67 ERA.
Paddack is known for having one of the best changeups that we have seen in a while. He also commands his pitches better than most young arms in the league do.
For an Atlanta Braves offense that is struggling to drive in runs with runners on base, this was no easy assignment.
Paddack struck out 5 Braves hitters in 6 innings pitched. He kept the ball on the ground for the most part and his changeup was tough on every batter last night.
Let’s get into a few takeaways from last night’s 4-3 loss to the Padres.
1. Teheran pitched fairly well
Julio Teheran took the mound for the Atlanta Braves with a 1.64 ERA when pitching at SunTrust Park in 2019.
Tuesday night also happened to be Julio’s 200th career start for the Atlanta Braves.
Teheran has struggled the most when it comes to allowing early runs and those runs have usually come via the home run.
#Braves' Teheran has allowed 8 home runs this season in 38 2/3 innings. Of the 23 runs he's surrendered, 11 have come via homers.

Unfortunately, that would be the downfall of the Atlanta Braves right-hander in Tuesday night’s loss. Teheran could not find an answer for Padres right fielder Franmil Reyes as he went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI including 2 home runs.
Julio also surrendered a home run to Eric Hosmer in the 6th inning. While this is disappointing, it doesn’t tell the whole story on how well Teheran pitched.
He finished strong with 7 innings of work and had pretty good command of his pitches all night (with the obvious exception of the 3 home runs allowed).
Julio Teheran's night comes to an end after 7 IP. Allowed 4 ER on 5 H with 1 BB, 8 K & 2 HR on 100 pitches/66 strikes.

Inciarte hits for Teheran with two on and one out in the seventh with the #Braves trailing 4-2
If you were to take away Reyes’ hits, Teheran would have had a quality start. It was encouraging to see him get so many swings and misses. He surely seemed confident in his stuff and didn’t back off after allowing the home runs to Reyes and Hosmer.

If Teheran can fix the home run issue, we are in for a productive season for the Atlanta Braves starter.
