The Atlanta Braves bats did not show up again on Thursday afternoon as they lost against the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 and with that, were swept at home.

The flight to Cleveland surely will not be fun, but hopefully the Atlanta Braves can bounce back and collect some wins.

Let’s look at 3 takeaways from the series finale.

Can’t get swept at home by inferior teams

The fact is you’re not going to win every game, much less every series. But a team with playoff aspirations like the Atlanta Braves can’t come into a series at their home park and get swept by a team that is not expected to be in the playoff hunt.

What’s worse is that the Atlanta Braves didn’t even face Zack Greinke in the series at all.

Yes, the bullpen blew up in the first two games and we should have arguably come into Thursday’s action looking for the sweep ourselves.

The bottom line is, the offense didn’t get going Thursday and the team looked flat.

The old adage that was especially brought to the forefront by Atlanta’s own Bobby Cox, which was win every series is true, but you can’t afford two sweeps in the first six series of your season.

Playoff teams usually are able to look back at the end of the year and they won at least 1 game in every series and avoid long losing streaks.

Let’s give a little credit to the Diamondbacks though. They came into Atlanta and hit when they needed too and pitched great in the final two games of the series.

Hopefully the Atlanta Braves can go into the desert in May and give them a little payback.
