This bat is on fire
Again, it’s only been nine games, but Dansby Swanson is third on the team in average at .346 (of players who have played in more than four games) and on-base percenage at .471.
He’s scored the second most runs with six, he leads the Braves in home runs with three, and he leads them in RBI with nine.
And he’s done all of this while mostly hitting eighth in the Braves lineup. On Sunday Brian Snitker moved him up to the sixth spot and he came through with a pair of RBI (both of them put the Braves ahead).
This is certainly a great start for Dansby, but I think we’ll wait until we have a larger sample size to see how sustainable it is.
But again, it was imperative that he get out to this kind of start to help build his confidence.
Now I think he knows that he’s good, he knows what he’s capable of doing at the big league level, and now he’s getting it done.
Chipper Jones was recently quoted saying Dansby can be a “Derek Jeter-type of hitter,” (subscription required).
That label was also put on Dansby when he first came up mostly because I think he is a winner. But if he ends up hitting like Jeter as well, the 25-year-old could still be a star in this league.
