The Atlanta Braves completed the early season series sweep of the Chicago Cubs Thursday night in Suntrust Park.
With the sweep, the Braves are now back to 3-3 and everyone is breathing a little easier than what they did Sunday night.
Despite the persistent rain in the Atlanta area Thursday, the game was a complete game with the final score being 9-4.
Max Fried turned in the absolute best pitching performance of the year so far and we will get into a little more detail about that here in just a second.
It took a little while for the offense to get going, but they finally got to Yu Darvish in the fourth as Brian McCann brought in Nick Markakis.
They knocked Darvish out in fifth as Joe Maddon turned things over to his bullpen, which has been disastrous.
That trend continued as the Braves put up a five-spot in the fifth to break the game open.
They also added a single run in the seventh, and then Markakis picked up his fourth and fifth RBI in the eighth with a double.
It was a very encouraging game for the offense and most of the pitching staff. Let’s just say that this was a great time to play the Cubs, and I’m glad we were able to take advantage.
The Braves are now moving their attention towards the division rivals Miami Marlins who start a three-game set with the Braves Friday night.
But before we get to that, let’s recap the last game of the series versus the Cubs.
