Two names that were already on the Atlanta Braves roster last season have shown this spring that they still deserve their roster spots, but might not get to keep them.
Wednesday was a great day for Atlanta Braves baseball where we saw split-squads win both games against the Detroit Tigers (at home) and the Miami Marlins (on the road). Both games featured impressive results such as Freddie Freeman’s first career grand slam, but also great outings from Touki Toussaint and Bryse Wilson.
Both guys are showing that they deserve to keep their spots on the roster come Opening Day, especially Touissaint who wants to show his strong performance on the main roster last season wasn’t a fluke.
With the current issue with soreness and injuries to the pitching staff, there is a chance these two keep their spots.
Even if that happens, there’s a question of how long it will be until other starters are ready to go and whether or not the Braves will/need to put them on the IL (the “DL” is now the “Injured” List). Because for Toussaint and Wilson to get a shot, there needs to be spots open.
Anyway, Touissant kept the Tigers at bay on Wednesday with three innings of no hits, no runs and four strikeouts. This was a good rebound against the same team where he allowed five runs in one inning during his last start.
Toussaint impressive today for #Braves: 3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 4 K.

So his case for joining the rotation? As our own, Jake Mastroianni pointed out in Wednesday’s game summaries, even though Touissaint has given up seven earned runs and two walks in his six total innings this spring, he has struck out eight total. Also, five of those runs were from the one-inning game. So Toussaint is definitely forcing his name into the conversation.
Touki Toussaint with a stellar effort this afternoon against Detroit. The #Braves righty fired 3 hitless innings, walked one and struck out four. Good to see him have a smooth outing, bouncing back from rough start last time out against this same club.
