The Atlanta Braves had a great day on Wednesday picking up a pair of wins in some split-squad action. There were some great performances in both games.

On Wednesday the Atlanta Braves split up the team and played two games before an off day on Thursday. In one game they took down the Tigers 8-2, while in the other game they beat the Marlins 4-0.

I know wins and losses don’t matter in Spring Training, but anytime you win a game it feels good. And winning two in one day feels doubly good.

Let’s start with the game against the Tigers were the Atlanta Braves had most of their regulars in the lineup.

Two really good things came out of this game, and the first is Freddie Freeman hitting a grand slam!

The other huge positive is that Touki Toussaint pitched three scoreless innings without giving up a hit. He did walk one batter, but struck out four.

He’s now given up seven earned runs this spring on six hits and two walks over six innings pitched with eight strikeouts. This is certainly a good sign for Touki as it looks like he will start the season in the Atlanta Braves rotation.

Ronald Acuna, Ozzie Albies, Nick Markakis, Brian McCann, and Yohan Camargo all collected hits in this game as well.

I know we are focusing on the positives, but there were a couple of negatives in this game as well. Adam Duvall went 0-2 with a walk and strikeout, while Arodys Vizcaino only recorded one out after giving up two runs on three hits.

Against the Marlins it was the prospects putting on a show.

Christian Pache hit leadoff and went 2-3 with a run scored. Austin Riley hit third and picked up a hit and a walk.

Bryse Wilson started the game and tossed three scoreless innings allowing just a hit with one strikeout. Kyle Muller came in behind him and pitched two scoreless innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Charlie Culberson — who has gotten off to a slow start — picked up a pair of hits against the Marlins as well with a walk and a run scored.

There really weren’t any negatives against the Marlins, but then again, they were playing the Marlins.

The Atlanta Braves will be off on Thursday before coming back on Friday where Josh Donaldson and Kevin Gausman are expected to make their spring debuts.
