The 12-year veteran spent the majority of his career with the Atlanta Braves

On Wednesday, David O’Brien reported that Australian sidearm reliever, Peter Moylan, is retiring from the majors. The now 40-year-old spent 9 seasons in the Atlanta Braves bullpen and became a fan favorite and loved teammate throughout the years.

He pitched for the Braves on 3 different stints, breaking into the majors with the club in 2006 and stayed there until 2012 and then returning in *2016 and 2018.

The path to the majors was not the easiest path for Moylan who actually started in the Minnesota Twins system. He was eventually released and actually had to go back to Australia and take a pharmaceutical sales job while trying to improve himself as a pitcher.

During his first stint with the Braves, he became a solid relief arm but did land on the DL a couple times during the latter years. However in 2006, his debut year, he allowed 8 runs in 15 games for a 4.80 ERA. He came back after and had a 2.44 ERA over 259 appearances with the club from 2007 to 2010.

*In 2015, he signed a 2-year minor league deal and spent the first year as a coach/player where he coached the Danville Braves while rehabbing from his second TJ surgery (His 1st surgery was in 2008). He made his way up the system to Gwinnett and eventually was called up to Atlanta. There he pitched to a good 3.48 ERA.

Last season, the Braves signed him to a 1-year deal (late into February) where he spent a good amount of time on the DL for a right forearm strain. He turned in a 4.45 ERA.

Moylan was a fan favorite for his kind and humorous personality, including the time he posted a picture of him wearing a special outfit for the ESPYs. He was also known a good teammate as well and fun to be around. Not only that but he’s a great Twitter follow.

Moylan has also pitched for the LA Dodgers and Kansas City Royals. In 12 years, Moylan ends the book with a 3.10 ERA with 324 strikeouts and 180 walks.

I can see Moylan possibly going back to being a coach maybe for the Braves or a team in Australia.
