Standing Firm

In terms of the current roster, without specifically saying it, Anthopoulos seems set with what he has.

The question about a frontline starter was asked and the answer seems like the front office is content with the stable of young arms knocking on the step of the big leagues.

It sounds like Dallas Keuchel will not be wearing a Braves uniform in 2019.

However, Anthopoulos did say a top-of-the-rotation starter would elevate his team; it’s just that he isn’t sure that particular player has been available in free agency or trade and if that player was available they would assuredly be in the mix for him.

In regards to the pursuit of J.T. Realmuto, Anthopoulos was very candid that acquiring the all-star catcher would have been a luxury and not a need, since they resigned Tyler Flowers and brought back Brian McCann.

He also would not divulge the offer they made to Miami.

Lastly, Anthopoulos was asked about the likelihood of the team adding a significant piece before Opening Day and the answer was symbolic of the entire conversation.

He said it is a coin flip and while there are current discussions ongoing, no particular deal is close because of the asking prices coupled with the desired years.
