Atlanta Braves Freddie Freeman Nick Markakis slumping in August
By Fred Owens

Just the numbers
On August 15, Markakis had a .324 average, since that time he’s lost 13 points as a result of a 9 for 48 slide that included six strikeouts. Here are a similar set of numbers as those I provided for Freeman.
PA | BB | K | AVG | OBP | SLG | OPS | wOBA | wRC+ | |
Overall | 55 | 6 | 6 | .188 | .273 | .229 | .502 | .215 | 29 |
Runners on | 28 | 3 | 4 | .208 | .286 | .250 | .536 | .210 | 26 |
RISP | 16 | 3 | 2 | .333 | .438 | .417 | .854 | .327 | 104 |
Hi-Lvg | 7 | 1 | 2 | .167 | .286 | .167 | .452 | .147 | -16 |
Elevated Lvg | 33 | 5 | 4 | .185 | .333 | .222 | .525 | .220 | 33 |
Markakis retains the league lead in hits (159) and doubles (59) ahead of Freeman (157 hits) and Matt Carpenter (38 doubles). His power numbers – such as they were – plateaued in June and remain about the same on a month-to-month basis.

His double last night seemed to indicate he was once more back in a groove. Hopefully, I’m correct as we need the Markakis bat at its best over the next 60 days or so.
That’s a wrap
Yesterday I wrote about Ozzie Albies slumping and Tyler Flowers barely hitting the weight of his catching gear against RHP. So last night they both came out and did the opposite. Maybe this post will have a similar effect on Freeman but since it lacks a miracle rejuvenation spell it probably won’t.
I said yesterday that the I doubted the Atlanta Braves would make a big late addition. They added a backup catcher – Rene Rivera – from the Angels and while that’s an important piece in case pitcher continue to plunk our catchers, he’s not a major addition.
dark. Next. Are you Joshing me?
They could still do it as they have about 60 hours left to make it happen, but anything major such as the Josh Donaldson idea Alan wrote about earlier, seems like more fantasy than reality.
