Back at the end of March we asked for feedback from you – our readers – on how you thought various aspects of the 2018 regular season would go.  We’ve still got 5 weeks to go, but I want to see how we did.

So many questions, so little time:  the Atlanta Braves have definitely out-performed most expectations in 2018, but it was Monday’s roster moves that reminded me of our annual reader survey on several key elements – many of which have already been played out.

Disclaimer:  something corrupted the original form on the Google site, and I’ve therefore lost a couple of the questions.  We’ll still see what we find out from what we’ve still got:

Team Questions

(We lost questions 1 and 2 – one of those was about the expected Win total for the team.  Monday night made their record 69-55… on pace for 90 wins, though with a difficult path ahead.  88 would be a nice number at the end, given that reality.)

Team Q3:  How many of these players will see time in the majors in 2018:  Acuña, Soroka, Sims, Wisler, Wright, Blair, A. Sanchez, Christian Colon, Allard, Riley.

  • Thus far, it’s everyone except Aaron Blair (surgery), Christian Colon (released), and Austin Riley (not expected, but not yet, at least).  So:  6 of the 9.

Team Q4: How many players on the Braves Opening Day roster will not be with the organization (at all) on September 1st?

Note that many have been designated for assignment or otherwise ‘outrighted’ off the roster, but they still remain with the Braves in some capacity.  So if this list seems shorter than you expect, that’s the reason.

In addition, some (like Lane Adams) were released, but later re-signed.

Thus – here’s the list of the dearly departed:

This list could change before September 1st, depending on the final disposition of Chad Bell, Chase Whitley and maybe a couple of others.

Team Q5: Defense improvement was a key goal for this year. How many errors will the team commit in 2018 (97 in 2017; MLB range was 73 to 121)?

  • So far:  63 errors.
  • With 38 games remaining on the schedule, that’s 23.4% of the season still to go.
  • This is a pace for 82 errors.. well short of 2017.
  • The Braves currently rank 8th in majors for fewest errors.
