The Atlanta Braves had a rough series this past weekend with the Rockies, as they were swept and done in by 2 blown saves. Let’s just act like it never happened and look ahead to the upcoming week.

This week the Atlanta Braves start out on the road in Pittsburgh for our first look at the Pirates in the 2018 season. The Pirates have won there last 2 games, but have only won 4 of its last 10 games. The currently sit at 63-62. 9 Games back in the Central division and 5.5 games back in the wild card race. Let’s take a look at the game by game matchups.

Monday     7:05 PM      Gausman vs Archer

Tonight’s game features a pair of names that were both linked to the Braves all the way up until almost 4:00 on July 31st. Obviously the Braves ended up with Kevin Gausman over Chris Archer, and all things considered thus far, have gotten the better pitcher as of late. Archer has not had a good outing with the Pirates yet, as he hasn’t lasted more than 5 innings in any start. Let’s hope that trend continues tonight as this will be Archer’s first ever start against the Braves.

Tuesday   7:05 PM   Teheran vs Nova

Julio Teheran will look to build off his last start with another quality outing vs the Bucco’s. His counterpart Ivan Nova is also coming off a couple of good starts. Nova earlier in the year was giving up a lot of home runs, but he has toned that down in his past couple of starts only allowing 1 in his last three starts and 2 in his last 6 starts. In his history versus all Braves players, Nick Markakis has hit him the best at a .333 clip.

Wednesday   7:05 PM   Newcomb vs Williams

The Braves really need to get Sean Newcomb back on track with this outing. Since going toe to toe with Max Scherzer on August 7th, Newcomb has come off the rails allowing 12 ER in 9.1 IP. Maybe facing a Pirate team that only 1 player on its roster that has an at bat versus Newcomb will do the trick. His counterpart Trevor Williams has been on a tear in his last 6 starts. In those 6 starts, he has compiled a 0.75 ERA, however, has walked 11 batters in 36 IP in those same starts.

The Rest of the Week

More from Tomahawk Take

After leaving the steel city, the Braves will travel to South Beach for the team’s final look at the Marlins. A 4-game set will begin Thursday night. Also in case you missed it,

Don Mattingly

has already said

that

Jose Urena

WILL NOT pitch against the Braves in that series…what a shame.

Around the NL East

The Phillies and Nationals start a series with each other this Tuesday evening. I know it will be hard but Braves fans need to root for Nationals for once. After that series wraps up, the Phillies will head north of the border to Toronto where hopefully the Jays hit some dingers, and the Nationals will play a series against the Mets, where hopefully the Mets pitching staff will hold them down.

That’s how this week for the Atlanta Braves shapes up. Let’s hope to get back on track and win some ball games and stretch out our lead in the East.
