I don’t know about all of you guys, but I’m a big fan of not only the Atlanta Braves, but also, the Atlanta Braves social media scene. We … us … the fans provide some of the best commentary out there.

The Atlanta Braves announced their annual Social Media Night promotion way too late in the season for me to participate this year. I try to make a trip down from Maryland at least once a year, but I’ve already made my trip this year.

Although my visit was a really good one – the 15-inning affair against the Orioles on June 22nd – I really wanted to be a part of Social Media Night. It just looks like a fun atmosphere. Social Media Night is slated for Saturday, August 18th.

It’s along these same lines that we would like to bring the social media rumblings, grumblings, and latest trends, to you. For those who don’t follow the Braves on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or even Reddit, we want to try and give you just a little glimpse into what is going on in the world of Braves Social media.

Acuna Mania

It comes as no surprise that Braves rookie stud, Ronald Acuna, Jr., would be leading off this edition of the Social Media Wrap-Up.

Acuna has been En Fuego since the moving to the lead-off spot after the All-Star Break. With all the attention Nats rookie sensation Juan Soto is garnering, Acuna keeps winning the one-up game.

Yes, Juan Soto hit a home run. Thanks for the reminder MLB Twitter. Well, guess what, Acuna hit TWO to lead of each game of a Double Header on Monday; homering in his 4th straight game.

And of course, it’s not just the offense that’s bringing in the attention for Acuna. His home run robbing catch of a Matt Adams would-be long ball was fun to watch. And then, in the second game of the Double Header, he nails a runner trying to go first to third.

The Washington Walk-Offs

The Braves have found themselves in the thick of a pennant race. In recent years, the NL East has been the Nationals’ title to lose. Well, they’re losing it, and losing it in a big way. The Twittershpere has been relentless in its trolling of the Nats.

Many have taken to Twitter to give it to Nats fans, especially after the last few days. On the 12th of August, they were walked off by the Cubs, on a 2-out, 2-strike, Grand Slam from David Bote. It was a glorious site to behold.

On Monday, the 13th of August, the Nats battled back to tie the Cardinals at 6 runs apiece in the top of the 9th. In the Cards half of the inning, Paul DeJong led off.

After Koda Glover fell behind 3-1 to DeJong, Glover served up on a sliver patter, a fastball down the heart of the plate that DeJong didn’t miss. This too was a beautiful site to witness.

The onslaught towards the Nats ensued.  Relentlessly.

Even Davey is at a loss.

Two words. That’s all that is needed.

And even Nats fans are seeing the writing on the wall.

Don’t Say it Joe

This is a touchy subject. It’s also not as fresh as the other two. However, it still made some heads turn. The first incident warranted a little blow-back, the second, I’m not so sure. The heat got turned up on Joe Simpson over the last week or so.

A quick synopsis: Joe thought the Dodgers BP attire was less then professional. He made a point to talk about during one of the broadcasts and his comments were met with ire, to say the least. The reaction was mixed, but for the most part, the reaction was about the same: Be quiet, Joe.

The second incident was hardly worth talking about. But because of his comments about the Dodgers, these recent comments were also met with disdain.

Basically, Simpson said, probably (most likely??) jokingly, that Nats rookie sensation Juan Soto perhaps may have lied about his age. Soto is 19. Apparently, to Simpson, 19 -year-olds shouldn’t look like 19-year-olds in 2018.

Pretty much.

A lot of folks were screaming for his head. Many were calling for the Braves to fire him. I’m not an expert on the Braves employment relations, but I’m fairly certain Joe Simpson, and anyone else in the booth or on the field, are employed by Fox Sports. But that’s neither here nor there.

It angered Nats GM Mike Rizzo enough, that he confronted Simpson about the comments.

Needless to say, it hasn’t been a fun past couple of months for Ol’ Joe.

That’s Enough For Now

We’ll wrap things up here. Needless to say, it’s been an eventful last few weeks. That being said, let’s move on and look forward to more Acuna-Bombs, winning ball games, and enjoying what otherwise, has been a very, very fun season to watch unfold.

WAIT! HOLD UP! We have BREAKING NEWS: As I finish this, Ronald Acuna, Jr., just hit his 5th home run in consecutive games! His 3rd straight lead-off bomb. And as I finish that sentence, Charlie Culberson – “Clutcherson”, goes back-to-back. MAN! This team is fun to watch!

Break out the razor and the hair dye!

WAIT! HOLD UP! We have MORE BREAKING NEWS:  7th inning… ANOTHER Acuña bomb: this one putting the Braves up 10-6, just after hearing that the Phillies lost again!

This is unreal.

OK, back to the wrap up. Sorry about that. Got a little excited. Anyway, as I was saying. Just keep enjoying watching this team play.

Next. Has a New NL ROY Candidate Emerged?. dark

And for the love of God, don’t be late for the bottom of the first inning or any Ronald Acuna, Jr., plate appearance.
