Atlanta Braves history on this day
Turning 61 years old today is former Braves #1 overall selection Bob Horner. Horner came immediately to the majors after being the top pick out of Arizona State and won the 1978 NL Rookie of the Year Award. However, injuries would hamper Horner’s career, as he never played better than 90% of the games in a season. In spite of that, he had three 30+ home run seasons. He was part of the collusion case with the MLBPA and owners after the 1986 season due to the owners colluding against free agents. He went to Japan for a year before finishing his career with one season with the Cardinals, just 30 years old in his final season in the majors.
That’s it, that’s all for another brilliant day of being an Atlanta Braves fan! We’ll check back in tomorrow!!
