Atlanta Braves: MLB Pipeline releases midseason farm system rankings
With the middle of the season comes new rankings from all sorts of angles in the prospect community. The Atlanta Braves continue to rank highly in recently-released farm system rankings.
The Atlanta Braves have built a tremendously impressive farm system. Players have breakthrough seasons in the lower levels that many did not see coming, and the team seems to still get prime production from top draft picks and high-money international signings. Even with the punishment of the offseason, the Braves farm system is one to be envied around the game.
In the offseason, MLB Pipeline received plenty of ire from Atlanta Braves fans when their rankings of each farm system in the game came out and revealed a surprise for many Braves fans – the Braves were not #1!
With arguably the top prospect in the game in Ronald Acuna, more top 100 players than any other farm system, and a host of players who were “on the cusp” of the top 100 list, it simply didn’t make sense for most Atlanta Braves fans. So, when the midseason rankings from MLB Pipeline came out this morning, similar ire was expected, but it seems the social media attitude is that the Braves at #2 overall is the “right” spot for the organization.

The Braves really only graduated Acuna and Daniel Winkler off the preseason top 30 list, but with multiple players (
Max Fried,
Luiz Gohara, perhaps
Kolby Allard) likely to graduate by the end of the season, the offseason lists could be even less kind to the Braves. Though, with players like
Drew Waters,
Cristian Pache,
Bryse Wilson, and
William Contrerasshooting up overall top prospect lists, it will be interesting to see if the likely 7+ top 100 prospects remaining in the Atlanta Braves system will outweigh the graduation of a number of quality players to the major league level.
For what it’s worth, I personally have little argument with the Padres #1. They were the only team who I considered even competing with the Braves in the preseason, and now they’re atop the rankings. Most likely their top guys will also still remain in rankings in the offseason, meaning it’s quite likely that the Braves will be looking up at San Diego in this offseason’s rankings, but that’s just fine. The Braves have begun to harvest the fruits of their rebuild, and the Padres have barely scratched the surface of doing so.
